Professor Leif Holmlid: Overunity Energy Production From Laser-Induced Fusion in Ultra-dense Deuterium.

In response to our last blog post, we received the below response from Professor Leif Holmlid. In essence, he’s basically clarifying that their Swedish nuclear fusion reactor is not a Cold Fusion system but a Hot Fusion one, producing temperatures of up to 500 million °C. He also suggests that scientists working on Cold Fusion / LENR should perhaps search for muon production in their reactors as he believes the spontaneous process giving muons that he described in one publication may be a basic process in LENR.

Here is his response in full:

Dear Amos,

Muon catalyzed fusion is ordinary nuclear fusion so it can certainly give an energy gain. The problem was that there has been no efficient method to form muons. Such a method is now described in several publications from my group.

The fusion process that generates the muons and the above-break-even efficiency is not muon catalyzed fusion. It is another nuclear process giving mesons and finally muons as products. This type of process does not give neutrons. All the details of this process are not known yet.

However, the muon catalyzed fusion process is ordinary fusion and thus generates neutrons. This is not the main process which we want to develop further but a side track.

Our studies are not part of LENR. The temperature we observe in the laser-induced
plasma is 50 – 500 MK (mega Kelvin), thus much higher than in the Sun. On the other hand, the spontaneous process giving muons that we describe in one publication may be a basic process in LENR. LENR scientists need to check if they have muons in their systems.
